The NSW government is considering a state funeral for legendary trainer Bart Cummings as the racing industry and racing lovers mourn his death.
The 12-time Melbourne Cup-winning trainer died at his farm in Sydney’s northwest on Sunday, aged 87.
Apart from his staggering Melbourne Cup record, Cummings trained 256 Group One winners – second only to the legendary TJ Smith.
Cummings and the late CS Hayes were inaugural inductees to the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2001.
Although there are no plans in place, a NSW government spokeswoman told AAP it is considering offering a state funeral to the Cummings family.
